Did Paul McCartney really pay low rates to the band members of Wings?
Band members of wings expected to get paid the kind of money a rich superstar Beatle has lying around but Paul was all tangled up with lawsuits and couldn’t get most of his Beatles and solo money. Even his solo money was being split up 4 ways with the other Beatles, thus the lawsuits to break them up. The only money banked for a while was from Linda’s share of songwriting on Ram until the Beatles settled mid decade. They were sued by the record company claiming Paul wrote all the songs but the McCartney’s won, keeping their access to 1/2 the writing royalties.
So Paul, not one to overpay already, paid the others lower, possibly union wages. They earned a lot more on tour logging a lot of hours. Of course they got a superstar band name on their resume by being in the band Wings for even a year or two. Most were unknowns until joining Wings. Complaints about low pay were common from ex-Wings musicians.Tours cancelled after the Japanese drug bust left Denny Laine little choice but to leave, and Wings was finally over.
No one outside of Wings has complained about pay from Paul. His long running current band members appear to be well paid and have been together for over 15 years!
